Mixed Game Festival IX Day 3 Recap: Trivia, Signed Books and Marathon Sessions

Day 3 of the Mixed Game Festival IX added over 18(!) hours of mixed game action to the running total of marathon sessions that we, as mixed-game players, love oh so much.

The day began at noon with two tables of $4/$8 Dealer’s Choice inside the poker room at Resorts World Las Vegas, and those two tables stayed in play until 2 a.m. Of course, we had one table continue carrying the torch for several hours after that, until dawn beckoned just after 6 a.m.!

Keep reading to enjoy a full recap of the day’s festivities.

Everyone Is A Winner In MGF Trivia!

Cardplayer Lifestyle Founder Robbie Strazynski started off the afternoon with one of everyone’s favorite events from previous MGF renditions: poker trivia. We love poker, and we love trivia! 🙂

Poker is the best niche, and we know we’re preaching to the choir. As fans of the game, who doesn’t love some random fun facts?

Even better, Robbie made sure everyone who participated got a prize. The winners got their choice of a D&B Poker book or a RunGood Gear official festival T-shirt for answering questions correctly. The losers received a $1 chip or a Cardplayer Lifestyle patch. (And as an aside, I hope some of those $1 chips made their way to the dealers as tokens of appreciation for their role in this festival. It might not be much, but it matters, and it all adds up!)

Lexy Gavin-Mather Delivers Smiles And Signed Books

The action continued strong through the first handful of hours on Day 3. Then, poker pro and influencer Lexy Gavin-Mather surprised the festival and came downstairs from the NAPT to say hi.

Gavin-Mather brought a copy of her recently published book, Mastering Small Stakes No-Limit Tournaments and autographed it to prepare for a giveaway. As you can see, Rufus won the book and was kind enough to show off his haul.

Of course, we are extremely grateful for Lexy’s visit and book giveaway, even if it’s a book about No-Limit Hold’em. Hey, if you’re reading this, you’re reading it from a guy who plays a lot of NLH tournaments despite his love for mixed games!

And Lexy, if you’re reading this, thank you again for bringing your amazing smile to every poker room you enter. We always appreciate seeing you smile at the tables when covering an event!

Pokercoaching.com Player of the Day: Adam Sharples

Day 3’s Pokercoaching.com Player of the Day, Adam Sharples, is in town from Northern Ireland and was in action early on Day 3 of the MGF. Sharples, who originally hails from Chester, England, had been in town since the previous Friday.

Since arriving, Sharples has played at least one hour (or until he lost his buy-in) at all 18 poker rooms in Las Vegas with active games. Of course, he saved the best for last, coming to Resorts World and getting involved in the MGF action!

Adam Sharples

Or, rather, Sharples had been looking at Resorts World’s lineup on PokerAtlas each morning and did not see any games on the list. He was worried he wouldn’t go 18-for-18 but came into the room and found seats available.

“And I can play mixed games as well, which I love playing!” he added. Sharples said that he used to play a lot of Stud, Razz (the Day 2 game of choice!) and Stud 8 on PokerStars back in the day.

He has come to Vegas from Northern Ireland eight times since 2020 to play poker, this time, opting to join some friends on a Halloween trip after receiving the blessing from his soon-to-be wife, Ellen Rose. Sharples is getting married in a few weeks, and the entire Cardplayer Lifestyle family would like to extend an early congratulations!

Day 4 Preview: NAPT Drawings!

While cash games are undoubtedly the focus at each Mixed Game Festival, we are honored to have two Cardplayer Lifestyle branded mixed game tournaments included in the greater 2024 PokerStars NAPT Las Vegas festival.

To celebrate these events, we’ll be holding drawings at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6 for the two events:

  • Thursday, November 7 at 2 p.m.: $550 H.E.R.O.S.
  • Saturday, November 9 at 2 p.m.: $550 8-Game

Both events have unlimited re-entries, and registration remains open until 8:55 p.m.

Additionally, we will have all the $4/$8 Dealer’s Choice games downstairs in the poker room that you can ask for. And some special guests have confirmed they’ll be making appearances. We can’t wait to see what else transpires as the day unfolds and will report back on all the fun tomorrow morning.
