Drunk, Hostile Player DQ’ed Near WSOP Europe Final Table

It takes some doing to be kicked out of a World Series of Poker event. You can stink to high heaven, trash talk constantly, and just piss off everybody around you and you will still usually get to stay in your seat. So Birger Larsen getting himself disqualified from a WSOP Europe event on Tuesday was quite the accomplishment.

Video taken by PokerNews shows a furious Larsen slapping away the hand of a tournament official who was trying to escort him from his table with just 30 players remaining, while at the same time yelling at someone off camera, apparently a different tournament official.

According to someone at the table, Larsen was short-stacked, had been hostile for quite some time, and had already been warned by a floor manager. After winning an all-in, he got even more antagonistic, leading to a one-orbit penalty.

In the video, Larsen can be seen yelling at the floor manager (the person out of frame), questioning his punishment. One of his opponents urged him to just take his penalty and cool off, but Larsen didn’t listen. He continued to argue with the off-screen floor manager while the other staffer was trying to escort him away.

A person on the rail, who seemed to be a friend of Larsen’s, also tried to get him to leave, gently reaching for him more than once, but Larsen slapped him away, as well. Moments after that, he finally left the table, walking down the hall with the tournament official and his friend, complaining all the while.

It wasn’t a complete loss for Larsen, as his disqualification only prevented him from advancing any further in the tournament, rather than keeping him from any winnings whatsoever. He ended up finishing in 30th place out of 379 entries for €13,000.

Of course, Larsen’s inability to control his temper – or his drinking, as reports were that he was allegedly drunk – took away his shot at moving up the money ladder and competing for the €395,000 first prize, eventually won by Ole Schemion.
