U Series of Poker cancels USOP Hanoi

Live poker in Vietnam continues to be sent into turmoil as the third international live poker event in Ha Noi has now been canceled this year. Latest casualty is the upcoming U Series of Poker stop in Hanoi – USOP Hanoi – which was supposed to kick off on May 29, 2024.

The news came to light on the USOP Facebook page earlier today, stating  “unforeseen regulatory changes” as the root of the problem. It appears to be an identical development that also led to the cancelation of the WPT Vietnam Passport to the World Championship series a few days ago. Below is the full statement by the USOP Team as screenshot:

U Series of Poker - USOP Hanoi

The previous stop of the USOP in Hanoi from September 1 to 11, 2023 was very successful as it paid out VND 56.9 Billion (~US$ 2.4 Million) in prize money. Most notably, the VND 25 Million Main Event attracted a staggering 1,336 entries for a prize pool of VND 29,158,200,000 (~USD 1,212,379). This marked the first time an international brand paid out seven figures USD for a single tournament in Hanoi.

Expectations for the upcoming festival were very high again as the series featured VND 60 Billion in guaranteed prize pools, larger than the total tally accumulated before at Crown. Poker enthusiasts from near and far will now have to wait a lot longer for the next USOP stop, as the next event thereafter is scheduled to take place in September in Da Nang.
