The first festival of the 2024 Asia Pacific Poker Tour is currently underway in the Philippines at Cove in Okada Manila with the APPT Manila setting sail on July 24 and running through August 5. The second day provided plenty of thrills with several players hoisting trophies. The first key event was also tabled, the APPT Open with Australia’s Danielle Noja bagging the chip lead at Day 1A. Danielle Noja Bags APPT Open Day 1A Chip Lead
The first of three starting days scheduled to the APPT Open attracted 60 entries with only 10 players surviving the fifteen levels. Australia’s Danielle Noja experienced a late game surge that sent his stack soaring after railing Wooseok Kim. Noja is fresh from a strong performance at the recently concluded WPT Cambodia Passport festival. Second in the counts os Philippine’s leading player Marc Rivera, and to round out the top three is George Salud.Β

Christian Lortie Cloutier Denies The Locals At Okada Kickoff
The APPT Kickoff resumed with 50 players out of the 327 entries returning to action. Ryan Platon carried in the overall chip lead however he failed to reach the final table, instead exiting in 13th place. Flight B chip leader Junhui Lee fared better in 11th place.
In the end it was Canada’s Christian Lortie Cloutier who took it to the finish line defeating Filipino Terry Gonzaga in a roller coaster heads up. Cloutier locked up the PHP 860,000 (~USD 14,720) top prize and the coveted PokerStars spadie. He also received a seat worth PHP 80,000 to the APPT Manila Main Event.
The final table was loaded with local talent that Cloutier had to wade through. Among them was Mike Takayama in 6th place and Richard Marquez in 3rd place. Heads up opened with Gonzaga leading 40 bb to 8 bb. Cloutier won a flip with over pocket Sevens then a second double up with pairing the two on the river to survive Gonzaga’s .
With the counts switched, it was Gonzaga on the ropes when he doubled up with king on the flop to survive to reclaim the lead, though short-lived as Cloutier doubled up again with holding against . Down to crumbs, Gonzaga was ousted in 2nd place.

Huge turnout at the Deepstack event with a 225 entry turnout to generate a prize pool of PHP 1,920,600 (~USD 32,870). Rising above the pack was Filipino Martin Astorga for a career high payout of PHP 388,000 (~USD 6,650) and his first ever live win. He will surely be one to watch for as the festival progresses.
