Benny Glaser Rides Double Bracelet Wins to Top WSOP POY Race

Approximately a third of the way through the 2025 World Series of Poker schedule, the Player of the Year race is shaping up quite nicely. Of course, if someone is going to win two bracelets in the early action, they are going to put themselves in a position to win the 2025 WSOP POY battle. But it is a marathon, not a sprint, and there is a long time to go before the eventual Player of the Year is crowned and he (or she?) has their banner printed for next year’s event.

Glaser Holds Decent Lead

Benny Glaser has a fairly good record so far at the 2025 WSOP. Final tabling two events to this mark, Glaser went all the way in winning Event #8, the $1500 Dealer’s Choice, and Event #15, the $1500 Omaha Mixed Event (Pot Limit and Limit Omaha Hi/Lo Eight or better and Big O), to run his career record up to seven bracelets. The two victories also place him in an excellent position to make a run towards the 2025 WSOP POY.

With those two victories, Glaser is the only player who has accumulated over 2000 points to this mark at this year’s tournament. His 2035.53 points give Glaser a decent lead over Scott Bohlman, who has racked up five points-paying finishes and won Event #17, the $2000 No Limit Hold’em tournament. Bohlman’s 1827.28 points top A.P. Garza, who was a big winner in Event #14, the $25,000 Mixed PLO/NLHE High Roller tournament; Garza lands in third place with 1623.36 points.

As of June 13, here are the Top Ten players in the race for the 2025 WSOP POY:

1. Benny Glaser, 2035.53 points
2. Scott Bohlman, 1827.28
3. A.P. Garza, 1623.36
4. David Shmuel, 1568.25
5. Caleb Furth, 1434.48
6. Nick Guagenti, 1397.80
7. Michael Wilklow, 1366.77
8. Blaz Zerjav, 1348.24
9. Ramaswamy Pyloore, 1332.55
10. Bradley Ruben, 1316.47

Lots of Poker Left to Be Played

Glaser’s lead in the 2025 WSOP POY may be a tenuous one, however. Players are allowed to use their best thirteen finishes in compiling points for the race, and many players do not have even half that amount to their credit yet. Two players who have earned bracelets earlier this week are in a prime position to rocket up the leaderboard.

Nick Schulman, who captured the bracelet in the $10,000 No Limit Deuce to Seven Lowball tournament, will see a sizeable addition to the 741.62 points he had before his seventh bracelet win. In fact, the calculator provided by the WSOP indicates that Schulman should move into third place when the new points are added in.

The other contender that could make some trouble for Glaser is Jason Koon. Although he does not currently appear in the Top 100, Koon’s victory in Event #32, the $50,000 High Roller tournament, should net him a huge chunk of points – if the calculator is correct. That calculator says that Koon should receive 1299 points for that win, which would put him just off the Top Ten in twelfth place.

To date, thirty-four tournaments have been completed of the 100 that are on the schedule. Other huge events could have a sizeable effect on the WSOP POY race, including the $50,000 Poker Players’ Championship and, of course, the $10,000 Championship Event (the Main Event). Poker News Daily will keep you up to date on the race for the 2025 World Series of Poker Player of the Year race, which earns the winner a seat at the 2026 Main Event, the Player of the Year trophy, and a special banner that will fly alongside past POY winners and Main Event champions.
