We’re mere hours away from the Big Event…tonight, the National Football League (NFL) will start its 106th season. Consistent with what they’ve done over the past few years, the NFL has chosen to put the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles in their showcase opener, and they’re offering up the sacrificial lamb (CeeDee, even) in their archrival Dallas Cowboys after they hang the banner. In Part One, we detailed how the National Football Conference (NFC) is expected to play out, and in Part Two, we did the same for the American Football Conference (AFC). But who will be the eventual champions of those conferences? And who will win Super Bowl LX? Read on, and our Crystal Ball will reveal all in our 2025 NFL Preview!
AFC Playoffs
First, there’s something that needs to be established. During the offseason, the NFL considered eliminating the division champions’ automatic home game in the playoffs. The Detroit Lions suggested that teams be seeded by their records, which would have been particularly important in 2024, as it would have moved teams with lesser records that won division titles (such as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams, and Houston Texans) out of automatic home games in the playoffs. When it became apparent that there weren’t enough votes for this, the Lions first tweaked, then removed their proposition, meaning the playoffs will be played out as they have been in years past.
In the second part of our 2025 NFL Preview, here is how we predicted the AFC would finish out at the end of this season (with their representative seeds):
1. Buffalo Bills (AFC East champion, tiebreaker win over Cincinnati)
2. Cincinnati Bengals (AFC North champion)
3. Denver Broncos (AFC West champion)
4. Houston Texans (AFC South champion)
5. Kansas City Chiefs (Wild Card #1, tiebreaker over Baltimore)
6. Baltimore Ravens (Wild Card #2)
7. Los Angeles Chargers (Wild Card #3)
Buffalo will take a bye in the Wild Card Weekend festivities, as the Bengals hold court over the Chargers and Baltimore and Kansas City ‘upset’ (at this point in the season, there are no upsets) the division winners (Denver and Houston, respectively). Buffalo gets Baltimore in the next round and should be the victor as the beneficiary of a week off. Cincinnati gets KC coming to their building, and I see the Bengals taking the Chiefs down.
In the AFC Championship Game, this is the year that Bills QB Josh Allen gets the monkey off his back in defeating Bengals QB Joe Burrow to take the title and earn the right to play in Super Bowl LX.
AFC Champion: Buffalo Bills
NFC Playoffs
In the first part of our 2025 NFL Preview, here is how we predicted the NFC would finish out at the end of this season (with their representative seeds):
1. Green Bay Packers (NFC North champion)
2. Philadelphia Eagles (NFC East champion)
3. San Francisco 49ers (NFC West champion)
4. Atlanta Falcons (NFC South champion)
5. Detroit Lions (Wild Card #1)
6. Minnesota Vikings (Wild Card #2)
7. Dallas Cowboys (Wild Card #3)
The Pack will happily sit back on Wild Card Weekend and watch their fellow NFC brethren beat the crud out of each other. Philadelphia will once again deny Dallas a deep playoff run, while I see Minnesota and Detroit beating the newcomers in San Francisco and Atlanta, respectively. Green Bay will welcome the Vikings to the Frozen Tundra and defeat Minnesota, and this time, Detroit will knock off the defending champion Eagles, ensuring a new Super Bowl champion.
In the NFC Championship Game, the weather will be frigid in Green Bay as they utilize their home-field advantage to defeat the dome-loving Lions to head to Super Bowl LX as the NFC representative.
NFC Champion: Green Bay Packers
Super Bowl LX
I know it is rare that the #1 seeds make it into the Big Game, but you have two teams here with distinct home-field advantages. If the Pack and the Bills can get their respective title games on their turf, then their weather advantages will come into play, ensuring their trip to…sunny Santa Clara, CA, the home field of the 49ers, for Super Bowl LX.
I’m looking for Green Bay to carry the day against Buffalo, simply on their defensive prowess. The Pack certainly accentuated their D when they brought in LB Micah Parsons, and they didn’t give up much to get that key component in the fold. Allen may be a better quarterback than Packers quarterback Jordan Love, but I prefer the offensive accoutrements that Love has over Allen’s supporting cast.
Green Bay 28
Buffalo 24
It’s going to be a tight game, however. In the end, the Green Bay Packers will walk away as Super Bowl LX Champions…but we have a long way to go before they are crowned! Now…are you ready for some football?
