GGPoker’s Olive Branch Initiative Gives Banned Players a Shot at Reinstatement

Did you once play on GGPoker, but were less than scrupulous and got yourself banned? Have you since turned over a new leaf and want to return to the world’s largest online poker room? You might be in luck (keyword: “might”), as GGPoker has announced its Olive Branch Initiative, aimed at giving banned players another lease at internet poker life.

“…. just as the poker industry grows and matures, we recognize that people can also change. Players who once contributed unsportsmanlike behavior may have since evolved, learned from their mistakes, and developed a genuine commitment to fair play,” said GGPoker in its announcement.

There is no guarantee that former GGPoker players who want to play on the site once again will be welcomed back, but the Olive Branch Initiative gives them a shot. Banned players must apply for reinstatement by e-mailing security@ggnetwork.com from the e-mail address they used for GGPoker before they were barred from the site.

In the e-mail, applicants must provide proof of identity, proof of address, and a selfie showing them with their ID, their full name and account nickname, and a “detailed explanation” as to why they want to go back to GGPoker (and presumably why they should be allowed).

GGPoker made it known in the announcement that just because one applies for reinstatement doesn’t mean their application will be approved. Every application will be considered on a case-by-case basis and a number of factors will be considered, such as the reason for the original ban, how much time has passed since the ban, and the person’s statements in their application.

All applications must be submitted by October 1 and decisions will be made by November 1.

Players that may have trouble with the “time passed” piece of the equation are the 31 people who were banned in February for violating GGPoker’s “fair play rules.” The site did not specify what the players actually did, but it was highly suspected that they were caught using real-time assistance (RTA) software.

Fedor Holz, a member of GGPoker’s Poker Integrity Council, said that the players would also be banned from the World Series of Poker, which is owned by GGPoker.
