DraftKings Details Responsible-Gambling Practices as Louisiana Conditional Renewal Adds Oversight Requirements

DraftKings chief responsible gaming officer Lori Kalani told Legal Sports Report that the company employs responsible-gambling triggers designed to identify bettors who may need intervention. Kalani also said that when a customer service representative receives a report indicating a customer is experiencing distress or financial difficulty, DraftKings staff conduct a review of that account.

The operator has closed 175 Louisiana accounts this year following responsible-gambling interventions, according to Legal Sports Report. On the promotional side, DraftKings said it holds off two weeks after a cool-off period expires before resuming marketing outreach to a customer, and waits 30 days after a self-exclusion period ends before sending that customer any promotions.

Louisiana regulators attached several conditions to the company’s license renewal. Under those terms, DraftKings is required to complete a review of its responsible-gambling marketing materials and to submit monthly compliance reports to the board.

The conditional renewal also obligates DraftKings to designate a senior-level contact person for the regulatory board.
