Another action-packed scene landed at Landing Casino, Jeju Shinhwa World, South Korea with the WPT Korea 2024 Championship Event running through its qualifying rounds. The second flight on schedule drew in a smashing 361 entries and saw China’s Pan Hai bag the largest across the Day 1B games. A great turnout for this season, a record breaking Championship Event is likely to take place with the KR₩ 2,000,000,000 (~US$ 1,500,000) guarantee expected to be crushed this afternoon. Today, March 30th runs the last of three flights with all surviving players set to return to the felt for the Day 2 rounds on March 31st.

Running alongside the Main Event festivities are side events NLH Survivor Bounty, No Limit 2-7 Single Draw, and a final Hyper Turbo NLH to wrap up the evening. In addition, multi-day Event #25: Pot Limit Omaha will course through its Day 1 with a champion crowned the following day.

Garnering a slightly bigger field than that of the previous flight, Day 1B registration closed with a total of 361 entries added to the tally. The massive turnout once again welcomed a strong contingent from China with over 60% of the 108 qualifier pack hailing from the Mainland. China’s Pan Hai bagged the lead with a healthy 616,000 (205 BB) chip stack following eleven hours of play with Zhou Yun trailing behind with 481,500 (160 BB). Pan sat with a comfortable stack throughout the day and inched over the field by the last two levels. Among the male dominated player pool, female runner Zhou stood out with the chip lead by the time registration closed and comes in 5th rank across the overall Day 2 pecking order.

Also joining the survivor list are poker celebrities Phil Ivey (39 BB), Steve O’Dwyer (61 BB) and Daniel Smiljkovic (85 BB). Last season’s WPT Korea Main Event winner Yin Tao (55 BB) likewise made it through and remains in contention for a back to back victory.

Players looking to bag a healthier stack are welcome to jump in on the last flight with the Best Stack Forward format in place. Multiple entries are allowed per qualifier, setting players back KR₩ 2,800,000 (~US$ 2,100) for each entry. Tournament runners begin with a starting stack of 50,000, equivalent to 250 times the opening blinds and will course through 60 minute blind levels all the way down to the Final Day. Along with the top payout, the last man standing is geared to receive the highly coveted WPT Korea Main Event Trophy and the region’s inaugural WPT Main Event Ring.
