Final 9 of APPT Warm Up Main Event Emerges; Kurushima Hiroya Leads

APPT Warm Up Final 9

The Asia Pacific Poker Tour – APPT Warm Up concluded Day 2 of the Main Event with the field trimmed from 105 players to the Final 9 in just under eight hours of play. Japan’s Kurushima Hiroyuki emerged as top dog with a stack equivalent to 61 bb. One of Kurushima’s biggest hands was a straight flush on a board 6h8d5s7h10h with the shoves on the turn. Kurushima had 8h9h. He piled in more chips by railing Jae Yi Chang (14th) on a two-outer and short stack Jonald Garcia (12th).

The Main Event kicked off on July 10 and over four starting flights, 682 contributed the PHP 16,500 buy in to easily surpass the guarantee. At Day 2, the 105 returning players were met by a larger PHP 9,605,561 (~USD 164,470) prize pool.

As soon as the “shuffle up and deal” was announced, shoves were rampant as short stacks attempted to chip up fast. Among the early casualties was big stacked Ashley Patterson who flopped top two pair only to see Patrick Enriquez’s higher two pair on the turn.

Among the early big stacks was Ron Ryan Mesina until he tried to push Kyle Anderson out of a pot with KcJc. Anderson stood his ground calling the four-bet jam with 10c10s. The win sent Anderson soaring to the top and secured a final 9 seat. For Mesina, he nosedived to 5 bb then went on a heater to quickly recover and eventually reach the final table wedged in the middle with 19 bb.

Down to two tables, action heightened with shoves quite frequent. Oleg Mordassov stayed consistent all day grinding for chips and railing several along the way that included Winifred Obedoza (16th). He bagged up 17 bb.

Taiwan’s lone representative Wei Chen Lin eliminated Michael Gabby Concepcion (15th) then seesawed his way into the final 9. Lin couldn’t win a hand against Kun Lim, even seeing his aces cracked. Lin recovered off Redentor Edoc who in turn made up for the lost chips by denying Phliip Baider a spot at the final table in 10th place.
