Jin Bei Cup $5M guaranteed Short Deck Main Event takes center stage

In what is certain to be the boldest and richest poker event in Cambodia history, the much anticipated Jin Bei Cup  Short Deck Main Event, kicks off today, May 8, 2024.

Hosted by the Jin Bei Group, the series headliner takes place at the luxurious Jin Bei Palace on the coastal shores of Sihanoukville. Since its annoucement, the exciting event has been one hot topic around the world as it boasts a head-turning US$ 5 Million guarantee. This is the first time a prize pool of this size has been announced in Asia and will already be setting a new record prize pool for the variant in the region.

Also announced is the payouts. The top 12 will earn a cut with the winner due to pocket US$ 1,500,000. For second place is US$ 800,000, and third place US$ 600,000.

While everyone has been curious on who will make the trip and cough up the steep US$ 53,000 buy-in, the event will be nothing short of action-packed with the a large turnout of Chinese players expected and three of the world’s most decorated poker players confirmed: Tom Dwan, Daniel “Jungleman” Cates, and Martin Nielsen.

The latter Nielsen has been on a Short Deck tear having locked up a WSOP bracelet last year and a runner up finish last March at the Triton Super High Roller Series Jeju Short Deck Main Event of the same buy in.

Along with these heavy hitters is Chinese ace Quan Zhou who placed fifth at the same Triton event. Zhou was already spotted at yesterday’s Jin Bei Cup Single Day NLH side event opener.

Another confirmed player is Xiao Yao, the first side event champion of the 2024 Jin Bei Cup. More notables are expected.

The Jin Bei Cup Short Deck Main Event is a two-day affair running from May 8 to 9, 2024. Day 1 will play a  total of 12 levels of 30 minutes each with six-handed tables and two bullets of 150,000 chips each for every initial entry. Unlimited re-entries are available during the registration period, which is open until the start of the final day at 2pm local time on May 9, 2024.

Starting the Level 10, eliminated players can choose to make a one-time buy-in of two stacks and pay a registration fee of US$ 104,000 for 600,000 in chips. Before the start of Day 2, all players can then also choose to add-on for one or two stacks as well, with each stack exchanging the buy-in amount for 300,000 chips.
