The Austrian claimed the Event #2: $20K NLH 8-Handed trophy and $771,000 in prize money, according to PokerNews, completing a victory that required surviving a near-elimination before outlasting a surging Alejandro Lococo in heads-up play.
Lococo had been the dominant force at the final table, knocking out five opponents on his way to the last two players, including a dramatic three-way all-in against Mehdi Chaoui and Justin Saliba. PokerNews reported that Lococo made the nut flush on the river with the club he needed to score the double elimination, and he also sent out Biao Ding, Jesse Lonis, and Justin Chu along the way, collecting $520,000 as the runner-up. Saliba took $358,000 for third, Chaoui $292,000 for fourth, and Chu $233,000 for fifth. The final nine had been set with Yu Zhang holding the chip lead, per PokerNews, though it was Lococo who ultimately shaped the endgame.
Roiter’s path to the win was far from straightforward. He entered the final day as a midstack and, at one point, was down to seven big blinds, he said in comments reported by PokerNews. From that low point he fought back, and in heads-up play PokerNews reported that he doubled with jack-seven before making sevens full to reduce Lococo to a single big blind. The 25 players who returned for the final day had each locked up at least $35,000, with David Coleman the first eliminated after cards were in the air; Jean-Noel Thorel fell in 19th place at the hands of Jesse Lonis, and notable names including Matthias Eibinger, Christoph Vogelsang, and Daniel Dvoress all departed before the final table.
For Roiter, the win arrives alongside a broader run of form he described himself: in comments quoted by PokerNews, he noted he had also won a bracelet in Las Vegas the previous year, characterising the stretch as a heater. He had accumulated 17 Triton cashes and reached 11 final tables on the series before finally converting, according to PokerNews.
