Nicholas Seward
Event 31 Champion Nicholas Seward

On Thursday afternoon, the final seven players in Event 31 ($1,100 Deep Stack No-Limit Hold’em) played down to a winner on the first live stream of the series, and it ended around 5:30 pm when Nicholas Seward and David Jackson agreed to a heads-up deal. As chipleader, Seward was declared the winner, receiving the title, the trophy, and $39,000.

Jackson began the final table as the chipleader, and he scored the first knockout about 90 minutes into the action when his Ad10s outran the AcJc of Dan Stavila. A ten on the flop was enough to send Stavila home in seventh place. (Click here for details on this hand.)

Seward actually started this final table second-to-last in chips with 25 big blinds, but he slowly built up his stack over the first two hours before playing a pretty big hand against Ya Yun Liu.

With six players left, Liu bluffed the river with queen high on a board of Kd9d2c6h7s, and Seward called with Kc8d. Liu was left with just three big blinds, eventually busting in sixth place, while Seward catapulted up near chipleader David Jackson. And Seward stayed near the top of the counts for the rest of the way. (Click here for details on this hand.)

With five players left, there was a three-way all-in situation between Seward, Matthew Zarcadoolas, and Eric Siegel. Siegel turned a set of queens to triple up in chips, and Seward won the side pot with two pair to knock out Zarcadoolas in fifth place. (Click here for details on this hand.)

Eric Siegel started the day last in chips, but he battled his way to the final four before he moved all in after the flop with top two pair against Seward’s flush draw. Seward caught a club on the turn to win the pot and eliminate Siegel in fourth place. (Click here for details on this hand.)

There were four double-ups in a row with three players left, but eventually Lanny Vaysman got it all in with KcJh against David Jackson’s AcJc, and he never caught up. Vaysman was knocked out in third place. (Click here for details on this hand.)

Heads-up play began with Seward holding more than twice as many chips as Jackson, but it only took about 15 minutes for Jackson to tie things up, winning a nice pot with a raise on the river. (Click here for details on this hand.)

Seward and Jackson went back-and-forth for a bit, with Seward taking a small chip lead into the break. They both wanted to play Event 37 ($2,200 No-Limit Hold’em), so they agreed to a deal to end the tournament. As chipleader, Seward was declared the winner, receiving the title, the trophy, and $39,000.
