Nonstop knockouts was the theme at Day 2 of the 12th CPG Championship Finals with the 1,446 returning players out of the event’s 3,787 entry field further trimmed to just 257 players. That meant over the course of ten hours of play a total of 1,189 players fell by the wayside. Going down the hardest was Suiyuan Chen who exited on the bubble. During the tenth hand-for-hand, Chen ran into a cooler with dusted by Changyu Ren’s .
The remaining 405 players then celebrated reaching the money and from there, the dropouts were even faster. By bagging time, a familiar face was at the top of the counts, WSOP bracelet holder Qiang Xu sitting on a deep 122 big blinds.
While Xu sported a big stack for a good portion of the day, Jiang Zhou earned his big stack during the last hands of the day. Zhou cleaned out UK’s Jun Li with runner runner higher two pair against on a board . Zhou bagged up 1,650,000 (110 bb). Rounding out the top three was Shaohua Lai who closed the day with a very healthy 1,605,000 (107 bb).
It is also well worth mentioning fourth ranked player Tianhao Zheng with 1,510,000 (100 bb). Zheng is a well known Asia circuit regular with numerous titles under his belt. Other notables surviving the day’s race were Pham Tien Dung (64 bb), Xue Song (51 bb), Feng Zhao, Junsheng Cannon Lim (48 bb), Neo Zhi Han (46 bb), Shigeaki Okada (46 bb), Xiaosheng Zheng (40 bb), and Nguyen Ngoc Dai (14 bb). Nguyen won his seat via one of the last Main Event satellites.
The remaining players return on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 for the next stage to the crown. Blinds open at 10,000-15,000 ante 15,000 and increase at a much slower 75 minute pace.
The 2024 CPG Championship Finals hosted by China Poker Games opened on August 24 with three starting days kicking off the seven-day schedule. 1,446 players advanced to Day 2 occupying three areas of host venue Howard Johnson Resort Sanya, China. Day 3 is up next.
Terry Sua Bags Lead At Lucheng Cup Day 1A
Singapore’s Terry Sua missed the money at the marquee event however it did not deter him from quickly pursuing the next best thing. Sua was one of 331 players that signed up for Day 1A of the Lucheng Cup and was one of 78 players advancing to Day 2. Sua bagged up the biggest stack of 561,500 (187 bb).
Sua recently commented that CPG’s freezeout format has made him more aggressive as only one bullet is allowed. We shall keep track of his progress on Day 2. Up next is Day 1B. Those that want to join will have to pony up the TWD 1,162 buy in.
