The battle for the Megastack title came down between Ireland’s Michael Wood and Dutch player Tobias Napel. Pre-final table, Napel dominated the action and delivered the bubble  to carry the biggest stack into the final 9.

At four-handed, Wood ran hot, first getting lucky against Ngoc Thai Huynh with Ac8c improving to a straight on board 7c4c6s5d9s to dust Ah10h. He proceeded to eliminate Sofia Sousa with pocket Threes holding against overcards then took all of Huynh’s chips with Qc9d straight besting Kc3c on a board Js2s2c10d8c.

Heads up opened with Wood ahead 30 bb to Napel’s 15 bb. Napel won a series of hands to steal the lead. One hand saw Napel crack KsKh with 2d6d trips on a board that completed 2s8sJd2c3d. The all ins were on the turn. Wood regretted limping in his kings.

Wood quickly regained with 3c9d trips threes on 3d3h2h4dQs with bets seen on the flop and river. Both players then opted to split the money and play for the trophy. Wood went on to defeat Napel to earn his first WPT title in Asia.

Rui Jorge De Carvalho Overcomes The Odds At Single Day High Roller

It was a deja vu moment for Australia’s Joseph Sandaev reaching heads up for the second time on the same day. On the first bout, Sandaev finished second to Dong Hyup Kim, and this time around, Sandaev said “time to be second again” as he faced Portugal’s Rui Jorge De Carvalho for the Single Day High Roller title. In the end, that’s how it turned out. Carvalho defeated Sandaev to lock up USD 26,889 and his first title on Asian soil.

Carvalho’s win was no easy task. At bubble time, with five remaining, Higor Seibel was sitting on a massive stack while the rest were under 20 bb. Carvalho was among them and survived with 9d9h against Seibel’s attempt to steal with 9c4d. The bubble burst on Benjamin Leblond with KhQs missing the board against Quang Huy Nguyen’s JsJh.

With the money intact, Sandaev doubled up off Seibel with pocket Nines dodging overcards, and joked, “I should just play you and go all in. I’ve won four all ins against him.” This gave Sandaev the lead and widened further after cleaning out the rest of Seibel’s stack with 8c8h dominating 4d4s. Out next was Nguyen who also met Sandaev’s chopping block.

Heads up opened with Sandaev ahead 82 bb to Carvalho’s 28 bb. Carvalho picked up two good pots with the second one calling out Sandaev’s 2d6d bluff with 3s8s two pair on a board 4hKs3c8hAh. This switched the counts until Sandaev hit back with Qh2s full house over Qd4d two pair. On a board 2d2c4hJcQs, it was limped pot then a checked flop. Carvalho check-raised the turn and Sandaev called the river-shove.

With the average stack now at 20 bb, it only took Carvalho two hands to seal the victory. Carvalho doubled up with KcJs dominating Ks9c. The final hand arrived with Carvalho’s KsQd outdrawing Sandaev’s AsJd on board Qc10s8s10h2c.
