Margereson collected €361,060 for the title, defeating Mercier, who took home €225,580 as runner-up. Cherish Andrews finished third for €161,140, and PokerNews reported that the final three players had combined live earnings of more than $13 million — a reflection of the experienced field that made it deep in the 844-entry field. The event paid the top 127 finishers, with Julien Thome (€123,940 in fourth), Sanjaya Wadhwani (€95,360 in fifth), and Cristinel Dumitru (€73,360 in sixth) rounding out the top half of the final table. Fabio Peluso (seventh, €56,400), Maciej Komorowski (eighth, €43,400), and Maksim Panyak (ninth, €33,380) also cashed from the nine-handed final. Among the other notables to make the money, per PokerNews, were Alex Keating, Simon Lofberg, Martins Adeniya, Dominik Panka, Thomas Eychenne, Juha Helppi, Tom Fuchs, and Christian Harder.
Margereson’s Barcelona win was not the only headline result from the festival. Manuel Stojanovic took down the €15,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Unlimited Re-Entry event, defeating Konstantinos Bouloutsos heads-up to earn €320,474. In the €3,200 8-Game event, Max Herulf defeated Benny Glaser heads-up, collecting €51,730 to Glaser’s €33,480 for second place, according to PokerNews.
Meanwhile, the €5,300 PokerStars EPT Barcelona Main Event was still playing out on August 26, with 67 players remaining from an original field of 1,823 starters when Day 4 resumed at 12:00 p.m. local time. Fabricio Nociolini held the chip lead with 2,510,000, followed by Joris Ruijs at 2,185,000 and Sebastian Malec at 1,950,000, per PokerNews. The top prize in that event stands at €1,370,050, with Hall of Famer John Juanda (990,000 chips) among the players still in contention.
