Short Stacks: Linda Barber Wins Women in Poker Hall of Fame Bounty Event, WPT Kicks Off Series in Las Vegas

Linda Barber is a bounty champion, the World Poker Tour begins it’s December at the Wynn with a bang, and the Borgata Winter Open schedule is released are the short stacks CardsChat picked up in its latest orbit of poker news.

Linda Barber won the Women in Poker Hall of Fame Bounty tournament that took place at Resorts World Las Vegas this week. Her $185 buy-in earned her $4,536. The tourney was part of the Women in Poker Hall of Fame 2024 induction festivities, which saw Kristen Foxen, Jeanne Davis, and Starla Brodie put into the hall.

The top nine finishers were: Linda Barber ($4,536), Melanie Pittard ($2,803), Amy Wingate ($1,878), Holly Jones ($1,310), Thea Temple ($958), JJ Liu ($732), Janie Maddox ($598), Linda Johnson ($504), and Meredith Campbell ($433).

WPT at the Wynn in full stride

The World Poker Tour championship series is off to a fantastic start with its $1,100 Prime Championship Day 1D setting a record with 3,866 entries. That brings the final number of entrants to 9,670, making the prize pool $9,379,000. It fell short of last year’s Prime Championship at the Wynn’s record of 10,512 entrants.

It’s an incredible start to what will be an amazing month of poker at the Wynn. Just check out the schedule:

The ClubWPT Gold $5 Million Freeroll starts tomorrow and runs until Dec. 15. Entrants to this tournament got in through many different avenues. Check out this fun piece by WPT’s Tim Fiorvanti to learn more. One of those folks will win $1 million.

The $10,400 WPT World Championship at the Wynn takes place Dec. 14-21. The $1,100 Ladies Championship takes place Dec. 14-15 and the WPT Alpha8 $25,800 buy-in High Roller takes place Dec. 18-19.

Borgata Winter Open returns

The Borgata Winter Open is scheduled to take place Jan. 2-26, in Atlantic City, and features a handful of events with significant guarantees. Some of the highlights are:

  • $600 Kick Off Deep Stack Jan. 2-6: $1 million guaranteed
  • $1,250 Mirror Mystery Bounty,  Jan 5-8: $500,000 guaranteed
  • $400 Almighty Million, Jan 7-11: $1 million guaranteed
  • $3,500 Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship, Jan 12-16: $2 million guaranteed

All four of these events will have their final tables live-streamed by the Borgata. Satellites for these events are now running on BetMGM’s online poker rooms.

Other notable tourneys include a $2,500 buy-in $150,000 guaranteed heads-up championship on Jan. 8 (64 player max), a $365 Seniors event with a $50,000 guarantee on Jan. 11, and a $500 Omaha Hi/Lo championship on Jan. 2.
