In a very short time, the World Poker Tour’s World Championship has become a “must-attend” event on the poker tournament calendar. Not only is it the conclusion of the season for the venerable touring circuit, but it is also the “last chance” for many players to potentially right their season after some travails. The WPT has come out with the schedule for this December’s festivities, all set to be held in one of Las Vegas’ top venues, Wynn Las Vegas.
Ending the Season in Style
Previously, the WPT World Championship was the end-all/be-all of the journey to Wynn Las Vegas. The WPT has decided to make this a major festival in 2025, with several new tournaments added to the mix. Some of these tournaments are disciplines that are not usually contested on the WPT.
Buy-ins ranging from $500 (plus $100 juice) to the $25,000 High Roller event aim to offer all players something they can afford. A plethora of satellite tournaments will also attempt to lure players into larger events on the cheap. These tournaments will be contested at Wynn Las Vegas from December 2-22, with 78 events and satellites scheduled to take place.
“The WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas continues to evolve and has become a must-attend event for players,” said World Poker Tour Chief Executive Officer Adam Pliska. “From satellites, to new marquee mid-stakes tournaments, to high rollers, players will find tremendous value, along with an unmatched atmosphere and experience at one of the world’s premier venues.”
Part of that atmosphere will be at a Players’ Party on Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. at Odyssey Noir just across Area 15 in Las Vegas. Open exclusively to participants of the WPT Prime Championship, Ladies’ Championship, and WPT World Championship events, the celebration will feature music, entertainment, and a vibrant atmosphere for players to enjoy. Players must present their official buy-in receipt to be granted entry.
New Tournaments Highlight Schedule
The real draw of the 2025 WPT World Championship will be the tournaments, naturally! There will be nearly a dozen Pot Limit Omaha and Five-Card Pot Limit Omaha tournaments on the roster. Mixed games, such as Big O, Deuce-to-Seven Mixed Limits, and Mixed Triple Draw tournaments will be offered. It is the new additions that the WPT hopes the players will enjoy, however.
A $1500 Mystery Bounty tournament will be held on December 7-8, while two tournaments will offer a sizeable guarantee to entice players. On December 12-13, a $1500 No Limit Hold’em tournament with a $1 million prize pool hits the felt, while December 16-19 will see a $2 million guaranteed prize pool on its activities. The women in the world of poker are getting their due also, with the WPT Ladies’ Championship scheduled for December 13-14; the $1000 tournament ($100 juice) will feature a $250,000 guarantee.
There will be two big tournaments on the festival schedule. The WPT Prime Championship, the lower buy-in compatriot of the WPT World Championship, will be held from December 7-12 and feature a $1000 buy-in ($100 juice) and a guaranteed prize pool of $5 million. The big draw for the festival will be the WPT World Championship, a $10,000 ($400 juice) tournament that will draw the crème of the world of poker to the felt.
The WPT has also arranged for players to potentially be able to get reduced rates on hotel accommodations. For that and more details on the 2025 WPT World Championship, head to the WPT website to learn more.
