World Poker Tour Lights Up Asia Pacific For The Next Three Months

 

When the World Series of Poker begins to wind down next month, the World Poker Tour heads to Asia Pacific for three consecutive events in the region. Make sure to mark down these festivals as each one has something different to offer.

Kicking off the poker excitement is the WPT Cambodia Passport to the World Championship, scheduled from July 12 to 23, 2024 at the world class NagaWorld Integrated Resort in capital city Phnom Penh. This stop attracts a diverse crowd with players from all over the world making the trip. In January 2024, Cambodia made history by becoming the first Southeast Asian nation to host the WPT’s Main Tour. The Championship set a WPT Asia record with a prize pool of USD 2,432,760.

In partnership with Connaissance Management Limited, the upcoming festival features a 41-game lineup headlined by the USD 500,000 guaranteed WPT Cambodia Championship.  The top prize includes a WPT World Championship package valued at $12,230. 

Additionally, players can win seats to the WPT Prime Championship, each valued at $1,100. The second and third place finishers of the WPT Cambodia Championship will each receive one of these seats. Seats will also be awarded to the champions of the following events:

Event #3 $550 Championship Warm-Up – July 12 to 14, 2024
Event #10: $80 8-Max Survivor Bounty  – July 15 to 17, 2024
Event #32: $550 Mini Championship – July 21 to 22, 2024
Event #36: $3,000 High Roller – July 22 to 23, 2024

Following the Cambodia stop, the World Poker Tour will make its way to Taipei City, Taiwan, for the first WPT Prime event in Asia this year. Another highly popular stop, WPT attracts a large local crowd alongside players from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines. In partnership with the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP Club), WPT Prime Taiwan runs from August 6 to 19, 2024 at the Asia Poker Arena.

Building on the inaugural event from last year, which amassed a prize pool of NTD 39,546,900 (~USD 1.23 Million), the upcoming festival is anticipated to be another smashing success with over NTD 55 Million (~USD 1.7 Million) in guarantees. 

Among the main highlights is the flagship WPT Prime Taiwan Championship which comes with a USD 1 Million guarantee. The event is scheduled from August 15 to 19, 2024 with buy in of NTD 35,000 (~USD 1,080). In addition to the top cash prize, the winner will receive a seat to the WPT World Championship worth $10,400. WPT value adds accommodations.

In September, the World Poker Tour returns to the land Down Under for the third consecutive Main Tour in the country. Last year, WPT Australia generated over A$12.5 Million (~USD 8 Million) across 16 events. In partnership with host venue The Star Gold Coast, this year’s festival aims to surpass that figure with an expanded schedule of 23 events running from September 12 to 25, 2024. Buy ins range from A$575 to A$20,000.

The main highlight is of course the A$8,000 WPT Australia Championship Event which will see the winner’s name etched on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup. In addition, the champion will receive a non-transferable seat to the WPT World Championship worth $10,400. WPT value adds accommodations. The event takes place from September 20 to 25, 2024.

Taking a brief look back, last year the marquee event prize pool soared to a record USD 4,474,890 (~USD 2.88 Million). Richard Lee walked away victorious and over half a million USD richer.

In addition to the headliner are other must-attend events that include the A$880 Shane Warne Legacy Perpetual Trophy Event, the A$675 Ladies Australian Championship, and the A$1,650 Mystery Bounty.

WPT Australia is the last chance for players in the Asia Pacific region to win packages to the 3rd annual WPT World Championship and WPT World Prime. Packages will be awarded to the champions of the following events:
