World Poker Tour Paris Attracts Huge Numbers, Hopes to Do Same in South Korea in November

It was prime time for the World Poker Tour in Paris, and the players again showed up in droves to try for a big chunk of the prize pool and poker glory. And those two things would go to Hugues Girard, who won a career-best $183,294 for winning the €1,100 WPT Prime Paris Championship in his hometown.

The WPT Prime Paris Championship attracted 1,242 entries over five starting days who generated a prize pool of €1,192,320 (US $1,285,559). The top 156 were paid.

The win pushed Girard’s lifetime tournament booty into the $900,000 neighborhood. It’s his second six-figure cash of 2024 after he finished second in a €500 event at the Winamax Poker Tour Grande Finale for $137,772 in March, which also took place in Paris.

Girard also finish seventh in the €2,000 High Roller event at the same series for $16,484. Girard’s victory also gave him a $10,000 seat into December’s WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas.

Back to South Korea

After Paris, the WPT spins to the other side of the world, returning to Landing Casino at Jeju Shinhwa World in Korea. The festival is scheduled for Nov. 15 to Dec. 1, with the KRW 2.5 million buy-in ($1,860) WPT Korea Championship running Nov. 16-22.

There will be three starting flights for the championship event and a prize pool guarantee of KRW 1.68 billion ($1.25 million).

The tournament is part of the Jeju Poker Festival.

“Jeju Island is a sensational location and has become a popular stop on the WPTschedule,” said WPT CEO Adam Pliska. “Thanks to our partners at Landing Casino and Red Dragon who have spearheaded the planning to bring WPT Korea back for a second time this season.”

This series will be the third time WPT Korea takes place in the last three years. The most recent headliner in March attracted 1,065 entries. Mate Hanusi was the winner.

“Landing Casino at Jeju Shinhwa World is again honored and excited to partner with WPT in hosting the WPT Korea Championship this coming November,” said Jenny Lim, Chief Operating Officer at Landing Casino. “Poker tours in Korea are on a steady increase, and the events held at Jeju Shinhwa World with outstanding partners such as WPT add to the excitement and growth of poker in the region.”

Also part of the poker festival is the Korea Poker Cup (Nov. 21 to 26) and Red Dragon Poker Tour (Nov. 26 to Dec. 1). The Red Dragon Poker Tour is a newer poker series focussed on Asia.
