Yunkyu Song Leads Remaining 32 Players After Day 2 of WPT Rolling Thunder Main Event

Day 2 of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Rolling Thunder Main Event is in the books, as Yunkyu Song leads the remaining 32 players. At 2.010 million chips, he is the only player going into Day 3 with more than 2 million. Casey Sandretto, though, is not far behind, bagging 1.895 million at the end of the night.

There was a total of 458 entries in the event, building a prize pool of $1,465,600. The top 58 players will make the money, with a min-cash of $6,400. Everyone who has made Day 3 is guaranteed at least $8,200.

Yunkyu Song has a fairly short live tournament resume, with live cashes spanning only the past nine months, with the exception of one cash in 2022. In that short time, however, he has won $363,977. Almost exactly half of that was from a single cash in an $800 No-Limit Hold’em event at the Borgata Winter Poker Open at the turn of the year.

WPT Rolling Thunder is the first stop on the WPT’s Main Tour since WPT Cambodia in late January. In fact, it is the first US stop on the Main Tour in 2024. Things will pick up a bit after this one, with WPT Voyage (on a cruise ship!) starting in less than a week and then the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown in April. The WPT Choctaw and WPT Montreal Championships are both in May, before the World Series of Poker kicks off in Las Vegas.

To start Monday’s Day 3, players will keep the seats they finished up in on Day 2. They will then redraw the final three tables when 24 players remain. Play will continue until the six-handed final table is determined.
