Flutter Entertainment, the owner of many of the industry’s top gaming products, will bring on new leadership soon. Current Chief Executive Officer Peter Jackson, who has been in his post since January 2018, is reportedly stepping down from his position, effective October 1. He is to be replaced by the current President of Flutter, Dan Taylor, although Jackson will be staying around to advise leadership until the end of the year.
Tumultuous Period for Flutter
Although he has stewarded the company through both good times and bad, the current state of the gaming world looks to have been too much for Jackson to overcome. The most recent fiscal year statistics showed that Flutter Entertainment endured a $298 million loss in the second quarter of FY2026, compared to a $37 million profit in 2025. This is despite Flutter offering some of the biggest names in the gaming world.
Flutter Entertainment is the global umbrella for a multitude of gaming operations. PokerStars, which they purchased (as The Stars Group) in 2019, has been one of their success stories, but it was not the first global entity that they acquired. The company also owns such established gaming entities as Betfair, Paddy Power, Sportsbet, and other nation-specific operations, including an India-based rummy provider Junglee Games, and the Georgian-focused Adjarabet.
For those in the U.S., they might recognize the name FanDuel when it comes to gaming operations. FanDuel, a former online fantasy sports operation, has moved into a multitude of arenas, including sports betting and television media. Flutter is the owner behind FanDuel and has seen a rapid expansion over the past few years, especially in the U.S. with the advent of sports betting in the country.
Little Advanced Notice of Changeover
There was little warning that Jackson’s position was under duress. Five months ago, in an interview on CNBC, Jackson was optimistic about the operations of Flutter. Even as recently as two months ago, Jackson saw that there were several areas where Flutter had growth potential, especially with the then-upcoming World Cup in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, and in further U.S. gaming activity. This did not come to fruition, however, as the numbers did not come in for Flutter or Jackson.
That second quarter earnings report seemed to be the catalyst for the change, but there were also declines in other areas that flashed warning signs. U.S. revenues had fallen by 6% over the past year, with sports betting dropping 15% on its own. FanDuel has become the largest online sportsbook in the U.S., but the U.S. market has arguably reached a point where it cannot expand any further; 39 states, plus Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico, have some sports gaming, either online or live.
There is potential for the U.S. market to expand, but it is going to be challenging. Large markets such as Texas and California currently prohibit sports betting of any type; if they were to change their regulations, it would be a significant boost for sports betting operations such as FanDuel, DraftKings, and others.
Those worries are now in the hands of a new leader at Flutter in Dan Taylor. Taylor has overseen Flutter’s International division for the past six years and has been a formative part of Flutter’s movements into sports betting. It is unknown how Taylor’s work will affect the online poker operations of PokerStars, but Taylor has the support of Flutter’s Chairman of the Board, John Bryant.
“(Taylor) has an outstanding track record of delivering results, building high-performing teams and leading complex international businesses,” Chairman John Bryant stated during the announcement of the changeover. “Dan’s breadth of experience and responsibilities across the group, combined with his deep understanding of the industry, give us every confidence that he is the right person to lead Flutter into its next phase of growth.”
As of today, Flutter Entertainment is trading at $98.71 per share on the New York Stock Exchange. It is nearly $10 higher than its 52-week low, but significantly lower than its 52-week high of $309.41 in September 2025.
