Christopher Vitch has won Event #48: $1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas to make it three WSOP gold bracelets.
The American put in a stellar performance over three gruelling days to claim the top prize of $262,734 from a prize pool of $1,946,560.
Vitch is better known as a mixed games player and admitted that he doesn’t know PLO theory very well, mostly relying on his experience and instincts.
Final Action
The field of 2,212 entries had been reduced to only 8 by the start of Day 3 and Vitch was sitting only a tiny bit behind leader David Prociak who was also gunning for his third bracelet.
Germany’s Christopher Frank found himself heading to the rail almost as soon as he had sat down to play with his last two big blinds.
Vitch then began to take the initiative with a series of big pots heading his way to consolidate a lead. This included a significant hand against David Prociak where Vitch flopped a full house and got paid.
At this stage in the tournament, Vitch found an even higher gear and savagely tore his way through the remainder of the field.
When three-handed play began, David Prociak and Canada’s Thomas Taylor were level in chips with only a slender hope of catching the dominant Vitch.
But it was Taylor who dealt with Prociak, finding pocket kings at the right moment and swerving a wrap draw sent the American packing.
Vitch went into heads-up play with a three-to-one advantage but the Canadian put together a decent run.
Just as we were contemplating the possibility of an incredible comeback, Vitch ended the event when his king-high flush beat the queen-high flush of Taylor.
Vitch looked emotional after his dominant win, mentioning that it was the two-year anniversary since his mother passed away.
But he was also beaming at the prospect of another month to go in the WSOP 2024 which he plans to grind as much as possible.
“It’s a strange day. It feels kind of incredible that it worked out that I won a random tournament on this day.
“I’m excited that I have a win under my belt, but I have plenty more events to play.”
