Daniel Negreau has won the $50K Poker Players Championship to claim his seventh bracelet and cement his status as one of poker’s all-time greats.

The former leader of the all-time winnings list banked a $1,178,703 top prize after defeating all of his opponents in the 90-player field.

Is this the best result of Negreanu’s career? It must be right up there.

Mixed game events are the best way to find out who is a more rounded and versatile player. More so than single-game tournaments, for sure.

Although this win ended an 11-year wait for another bracelet, this was actually Negreanu’s first in Las Vegas since 2008! The two wins in 2013 came in Europe and Australia.

This tournament might have had only 90 players but it still required five days to complete given the slow structure — another reason why this event is almost impossible to fluke.

Negreanu arrived at the playing hall in second place with Chris Brewer leading the way.

France’s David Benyamine was the short stack and naturally was the first to go in fifth place when he failed to build any momentum.

Dylan Smith busted out next, leaving three bracelet winners to fight for the championship — with 10 previous wins between them.

Brewer might have started the day as the chip leader but the run of play had not been favourable. A 13-big blind stack was enough to remain in the fight and things did improve until a dose of bad luck ended his run.

Brewer’s pocket aces had him lined up for a timely double-up, but Yockey made his flush on the river to send home his rival.

Yockey then continued his run, building up a sizable lead against Daniel Negreanu. But the Canadian pulled back in front after winning a significant pot in the PLO round.

And it would be another hand of PLO that ended the event. A turned full house left Yockey with nowhere to go and Daniel Negreanu was the champion again after more than a decade.

In his winner’s interview, Negreanu said:

“If there’s one event I want to play more than any, and want to win more than any, it’s this one. This is the one. Obviously, the Main Event is special, but this one has all the best players in the world. To come out on top? You can’t fluke that.

“You got Phil Ivey on your left, you got John Hennigan on your right. There’s no soft spot. So to come out on top in this, that’s a real win I’m sure.”
