Father Time Is Undefeated: “Kid Poker” Daniel Negreanu Might Play in WSOP Seniors Event

One of a possible 53 tournaments on his schedule

You know those “something that makes you feel old” posts on social media Well how about this: Daniel Negreanu, the man known as “Kid Poker” is 50 years old and qualifies for the Seniors Event at the 2025 World Series of Poker. And according to a tweet this week, there is a good chance he will play in it. Perhaps it’s time for a nickname change.

In the tweet, Negreanu revealed his “potential” 2025 World Series of Poker schedule, starting with the $1,000 Mystery Bounty tournament on May 27.

Included on the list are two events for the gray-hairs (I can say that because I’m turning 49 soon): $5,000 Seniors High Roller No-Limit Hold’em and $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Battle of the Ages. The latter has two starting flights: the first for those 50 and over and the latter for players under 50.

In all, Negreanu has 53 events on his 2025 WSOP wish list, including “All the high stakes NLH, PLO, and Mixed.”

He added a disclaimer, saying that he almost certainly will not end up playing in all 53 tournaments, as there is a lot of overlap. If he is on Day 2 of one event when another one on his list starts, he will not two-table and instead stick with the tournament he is already in, like most non-maniacs would do.

Still a grind, but less of one

Negreanu has always been known as a WSOP grinder. Winning WSOP Player of the Year has been important to him most of his career, so he would play in as many tournaments as possible to maximize the number of shots he had at earning points. And he has won the title twice, even with an 11-year drought between bracelet victories.

After a terrible 2023, though, he said he was going to play less in 2024 and interestingly, not chase the WSOP POY trophy. He attributed much of his downswing to fatigue as a result of playing because he felt he had to, not because he wanted to.

Prior to the 2023 World Series of Poker, the Poker Hall of Famer revealed a potential 88-event schedule, so his current list of 53 reveals the change in his mindset. Still, some fans are still concerned that he will get burned out, especially before the Main Event. To that, Negreanu offered assurance that he will late register for many events and allow himself to take breaks when he needs them.

The 2025 World Series of Poker begins in two and a half months with the aforementioned $1,000 Mystery Millions and the $500 Industry Employees No-Limit Hold’em event on May 27. Like last year, it will be held at both Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas on the Strip.
