GGPoker Launching New Ocean Rewards Loyalty Program January 30

Higher rakeback

GGPoker has announced that it is reworking its player loyalty program, touting a new system that it says is more generous and geared more toward long-term rewards. Starting January 30, the old Fish Buffet system is out, and another aquatic-themed Ocean Rewards system is in.

Calling it the “next evolution” of Fish Buffet, GGPoker says that rakeback rates will be higher across all reward tiers. Players will earn Tide Points (TP) as they contribute to real-money rake, at a rate of 100 points per $1 in rake generated. The lowest Ocean Rewards tier is “Fish,” which gives players about 24% rakeback. When players collect 10,000 TP, they move up to “Shrimp,” which has approximately 32% rakeback.

The highest Ocean Rewards tier is “Shark” at a whopping 10 million Tide Points, but with that, you receive about 80% rakeback. That is significantly higher than the current highest tier in Fish Buffet, GGPlatinum, which offers an average of 60% cash back. Now, to be fair, the tiers are not equal: GGPlatinum requires half the points of Shark, and points are earned at a similar rate to what they will be in Ocean Rewards.

That said, the equivalent tier to GGPlatinum in Ocean Rewards, “Whale,” is still expected to award an average of 72% in rakeback, so it is still better.

Longer-term focus

The Ocean Rewards page also features a “GEMs” point system, but how it works is not exactly clear at this point. It appears that players earn GEMs somehow, and those GEMs can be exchanged for cash.

“GEMs increase in value as you reach higher Tiers,” but the current Ocean Rewards landing page does not explain what their value is per tier. It is possible that they are not tied directly to the eight Ocean Rewards tiers, as the page shows just four GEMs levels: 5,000, 90,000, 800,000, and 33 million. The exchange rate improves for the player with each level. We are unsure if those are the only four GEMs tiers or if they are just examples.

One aspect of the new Ocean Rewards that GGPoker is hyping is that it has more of a long-term focus than does Fish Buffet. In Fish Buffet, players must earn a certain number of points within a time limit to maintain the loyalty level they have reached. These time limits range from seven to 365 days. In Ocean Rewards, players keep their tier status through the end of the next calendar year, but can still move up.

With Fish Buffet ending, all Fish Buffet rewards will be converted to cash on January 30. Also, all players will receive a one-level upgrade when Ocean Rewards kicks in.
