Phil Hellmuth has come out firing against “poker kids” who get staked in every event, in a recent interview.
The Poker Brat was shooting out expletives left and right over players who sell most of their action and then are asking why he doesn’t come and play the super high rollers like what we see at the Triton Series.
Hellmuth uses an example of “kids” selling as much as 80% so they can play the biggest events, but what’s wrong with that really? Nothing as far as most tournament players are concerned.
How is he talking sense? If they are talking shit to him that he isn’t playing it sure, but I doubt any Austrian kid or whatever who has 10% of a triton ever speaks about Hellmuth. Who are these people?

Patrick Leonard was quick to speak up, saying that it’s highly unlikely that “any Austrian kid or whatever who has 10% of a triton ever speaks about “ him.
Maybe a bit of a dig there, highlighting that there is a totally new poker generation in the game now and Hellmuth’s standing just isn’t what it was, even if we respect his achievements.
There were also another couple of interesting snippets from Will Jaffe and Landon Tice.
Jaffe says he’s blocked on Twitter by Phil Hellmuth now because of a video he made saying he can’t be one of the best tournament players out there now if he doesn’t play these super high rollers.
Then Tice pops up to say that Hellmuth tried to sell for a $100,000 buy-in event a couple of years ago at 1.3 markup and then refused to play when it didn’t fill up!

Within seconds of the interview starting, Hellmuth was bigging himself up and making all kinds of grand claims.
He kicked off by telling the listeners that on the first day of the World Series of Poker last year, exactly 28 people stopped him while he was walking through the casino to say “I love you Phil”.
And then the host Bob Menery asked him where he thinks he ranks across all poker players everywhere today.
Of course, you know the answer even before you roll the video, don’t you?
Hellmuth replied:
“They’re trying to give me, I think…People are finally saying that Phil is the greatest poker player of all time in tournaments.”
“The world thinks I’m the greatest, anyway.”
Well, that’s as grand a claim as they come, but we’ve no idea who “they” is, to be honest.
Ok, we have to give full credit when he tells how he made seven final tables in seven different games in 2021. That was seriously impressive.
He explains that he studies all of these games and has access to the best of the best.
He teaches some NL tricks and in return he gets to fill in the gaps in his knowledge of the lesser known games.
But then he returns to his own status, reiterating that he thinks he is the best all-around tournament player in the whole world.
There was a lot of coffee spluttered when Hellmuth added that he’d like to have the chance to prove it in cash games, too.
He talks about winning in high-stakes mixed games for 30 sessions in a row, but of course we have no idea how many hands he would have played. And live poker goes so slow on the variance train that it is meaningless.
