WSOP 2024 Day 12 – Brek Schutten Breaks Bracelet Duck with $1,405,641 High Roller Victory

Day 12 of this year’s World Series of Poker in Las Vegas saw Brek Schutten break into the winner’s circle with a stunning takedown of the $25k High Roller, a win worth $1,405,641.

Event #21: $25,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em (6-Handed)

Having lost out heads-up for the $50k SHR title to poker pariah Jake Schindler in 2022, Schutten entered the final day with a potential gold bracelet on his mind, rather than ICM matters, as he revealed later.

Schutten, from Grand Rapids, Michigan, is an ICU nurse when he’s not focused on poker, and found himself middle of the pack when they reached the unofficial 7-handed streamed final table.

He accounted for Dimov and Wilson, eventually landing heads-up against Tyler Stafman, a relative unknown at the highest stakes though he cashed in last year’s Main Event.

A topsy-turvey battle ended when some aces appeared and all the chips went in:

Tyler Stafman: A♦ 9♥
Brek Schutten: A♥ Q♦

Flop: J♥ 6♥ 5♣

Turn: 3♥

River: 2♠

Event #23: $1,500 SHOOTOUT No-Limit Hold’em

Only 16 players remain in the hunt for the $1500 SHOOTOUT title, with Daniel Strelitz and last week’s $25k heads-up bracelet winner, Darius Samuel, still in the hunt.

They’ll be back today with $15k sewn up and looking to outlast their respective tablemates to bag the bracelet and $305,849 top prize.

Event #24: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship (8-Handed)

Robert Tanita from the USA holds a big chip lead heading into today’s final day of the $10k PLO Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship, but he has some real beasts breathing down his neck.

The Brazilian duo of Joao Simao and Yuri Dzivielevski will both be looking to land the $536,713 first prize, with Sean Winter short-stacked but always a danger.

Event #25: $3,000 6-Handed Limit Hold’em

Brain Tate leads the way as day 2 gets underway in this $3k bracelet event, but with Phil Hellmuth, Joe Mckeehen, Erik Seidel, Robert Mizrachi and Josh Arieh among the chasers it is way too early to be counting on a win.

Some 76 players will return from 248 starters looking for a share of the $662,160 prizepool, with $148,635 up top.

Today also sees the start of both Event #26: $25,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em (8-Handed) and Event #27: $1,500 Big O.

That’s it for another day’s action at the 2024 WSOP, but be sure to tune in for your daily dose again tomorrow!
