Poker pro Jared Greiner took to social media earlier this week to detail the horrifying ordeal of returning to his Las Vegas-area Airbnb after playing in the WSOP, only to be assaulted, threatened, taped up, and robbed.
In a post on X, Greiner shared a screenshot of a series of texts he sent, saying that after he busted out of the $1,500 Closer event, he returned home to the Airbnb he was renting, only to get the scariest surprise of his life:
“When I walked in the front door two men were there waiting, immediately tackled me to the ground and tied me up and took my backpack with my entire roll in it. What the fuck!!!!”
He did not provide the exact dollar amount the men took, simply saying in the text that it was “literally all my money…I cashed out”
Greiner cashed for over $78,000 at the 2026 World Series of Poker. His last cash was his largest: $57,500 for a 218th place finish in the Main Event.
He later posted a more detailed recounting on social media, explaining that when he returned to the house from the WSOP at about 8:00pm, the door was locked, as expected. But the two men were already inside and jumped him when he entered, meaning they likely knew the lock code.
They tied his arms behind his back and threatened to kill him if he moved. The men also knew that he had cash in his backpack, and as he did not have it on him, once again threatened to kill him if he didn’t tell them where it was.
Greiner told them the backpack was in his car. After he “begged them to take whatever they wanted and leave and to please let me live,” the men hog tied him with duct tape and left. Greiner eventually wriggled out of the tape and ran to a neighbor’s house for help. Police arrived on the scene, but have not caught the suspects.
What Greiner went through was absolutely frightening, but it is also interesting. As unfortunate as it is, gamblers getting robbed after cashing out at the casino is something that happens. Home break-ins are also something that happens. That fact that both happened in this case, though, is odd. The suspects obviously knew Greiner was going to have a backpack full of cash, even though he didn’t have it on his person when he entered the house. They also knew the lock code so they could already be inside when he got home.
Thus, it seems like neither your typical post-casino mugging nor your typical home invasion. The men knew how to get into the house and knew their target was going to be carrying cash. The significance of that juxtaposition is speculation for us and hopefully clues for investigators.
The best part of the situation is that Jared Greiner is physically ok.
