The American has put himself alongside some illustrious company in WSOP history and moves past the $4 million mark in live tournament winnings.

Hui was at one point suffering with a 10-to-1 chip deficit but his experience told him that all results were still on the table.

“When I won my first bracelet in 2014 in the O8, I was 16:1 down heads-up and came back. When I won the PPC I was down 4:1 and then when I won the PLO [in 2022] I literally never had over 20 big blinds until I got heads-up.”

Final Action

There were 23 challengers remaining and 13 of those were heading home by the time of the first break.

Last year’s winner of Event #35: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. Yuri Dzivielevski, couldn’t get a run going and was one of the early dropouts.

Two-time bracelet winner Daniel Strelitz was one of the favourites to clinch the title but he couldn’t do any better than seventh place and a $24,595 prize.

And then there was a natural tightening up of the play with no player heading to the rail for some time.

By the time the table was three-handed, Hui timed his run to perfection, heading into the lead just as David Avina ran out of luck.

Now, only Daniel Mayoh and Hui remained.

Hui might have thought it could be a smooth road to victory after his mini-heater but poker is rarely so simple.

Mayoh pulled off some nice bluff catching to amass a chip lead of his own.

But then the tables turned and Hui began to chip back up in steady fashion across a variety of the games.

The tournament ended when Hui’s two pair triumphed over Mayoh’s flush draw that never came in.
